A faction of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has called on the Federal Government to reduce the price of petrol to between N350 and N400 per litre and review the current N70,000 national minimum wage. The group made the demands in a communiqué issued on Sunday after its National Executive Committee meeting in Lagos.

The faction, led by Oba Oladipo Olaitan, said the government’s proposed petrol price stabilisation mechanism, which seeks to keep the price at no more than N1,350 per litre, falls short of what Nigerians need amid rising living costs. It argued that inflation has significantly weakened workers’ purchasing power and made the current minimum wage inadequate.

Afenifere also expressed concern over political intolerance and inflammatory statements ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging politicians to conduct campaigns responsibly.

The group further called on the Federal Government to ensure a free and fair election by allowing the Independent National Electoral Commission to operate independently.
