State leaders of the All Progressives Congress have expressed differing positions on whether the party should work with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike ahead of the 2027 elections. The disagreement centres on Wike’s continued membership of the Peoples Democratic Party while openly supporting President Bola Tinubu and promoting a cross-party platform known as the Rainbow Coalition.
APC officials in Jigawa, Gombe and Zamfara indicated a willingness to cooperate with Wike or follow any arrangement approved by the party’s national leadership. Plateau Chairman Rufus Bature also said cooperation was possible but argued that Wike should not simultaneously identify with rival political parties. Wike has continued to publicly mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election.
However, party figures in Sokoto, Kebbi, Nasarawa and Rivers expressed reservations about the Rainbow Coalition or arrangements they believe could weaken existing APC structures and candidates. Other chapters said they would await guidance from the party leadership, meaning no unified nationwide APC position on working with Wike has yet emerged.
