Commercial drivers urged to install cameras to fight insecurity
Glow FM can confirm that operators of commercial vehicles across the country have been appealed to to adopt the installation of dashboard cameras, commonly known as dash cams, as part of efforts to tackle rising insecurity on highways.

The Sterling Human Resource Development and Logistics Limited made the call via a communiqué signed by its Public Relations Officer, Idowu Fulfilment, on Friday.

in the words of the statement, the company enjoined transport operators to take proactive steps in addressing increasing cases of banditry, kidnapping, and violent crimes affecting commuters, especially on inter-state routes.

The company highlighted the importance of adopting technology-driven solutions to strengthen security, noting that collaboration among private sector stakeholders, transport operators, and security agencies is essential.

It pointed out, “The company emphasises the growing need for technology-driven solutions in addressing Nigeria’s highway security challenges.

“The increasing rate of attacks on commuters, particularly on inter-state routes, requires a coordinated effort between private sector actors, transport operators, and security agencies.”

as expressed by the firm, installing dash cams in commercial buses, taxis, and logistics vehicles would help provide real-time visual evidence and aid law enforcement efforts.

“The installation of dash cams in commercial buses, taxis, and logistics vehicles will provide real-time visual evidence, assist in tracking criminal activities, and support law enforcement agencies in investigations and prosecutions,” the statement added.

The company further outlined the benefits of dash cams, noting that they can record suspicious activities, deter criminal behaviour, and provide credible evidence in disputes or attacks.

It also called on transport unions, fleet operators, and individual drivers to prioritise safety by investing in surveillance technology, while urging government agencies to introduce policies that would encourage or mandate their use.

“The company further urges transport unions, fleet operators, and individual drivers to prioritise passenger safety by investing in affordable surveillance technology, and calls on relevant government agencies to consider policies that would encourage or mandate the use of such devices in commercial transportation,” the statement remarked.

Describing security as a shared responsibility, the firm stressed the importance of integrating simple technologies into the transport system to improve intelligence gathering and response to crime.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to safety and innovation, while encouraging collaboration with security agencies to ensure effective use of data collected through such devices.

“Sterling Human Resource Development and Logistics Limited reaffirms its commitment to promoting safety, accountability, and innovation in Nigeria’s logistics and human resource sectors, and encourages collaboration with security agencies to ensure that data obtained from such devices is effectively utilised within the bounds of the law to curb criminal activities.”

Rising cases of banditry, kidnapping, and violent attacks on inter-state travellers in Nigeria have heightened concerns over highway safety, with limited surveillance and weak evidence gathering often hindering effective law enforcement response.
