Residents watch helplessly as the flood water submerged their vehicles. Residents of the Anjorin community in the Ojukoro area of Lagos have accused the state government of abandoning a drainage construction project, alleging that the uncompleted work has worsened flooding and subjected them to years of hardship.

The residents, who spoke with journalists Metro during a visit to the community, said the abandoned drainage project on Olaofe Road, formerly known as Agric Road, had left the once-motorable road in a deplorable condition. They alleged that although the state government commenced the drainage project about four years ago to address flooding in the area, successive contractors abandoned the work after partially executing it.

The former Chairman of the Anjorin Community Development Association, Dr Olu Johnson, said the road was in good condition before the drainage project began. The government later commenced a drainage project along the road but failed to complete it.
