Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has told Manchester City players to throw away their medals if the club is stripped of titles following the Premier League’s findings on financial-rule breaches. Keane said the achievements recorded during the affected period had been undermined by the findings.

The Premier League found City guilty of financial-rule breaches covering nine years from 2009 to 2018. The club won eight trophies during that period, including three Premier League titles, but continues to deny wrongdoing and plans to appeal the decision. No sanctions have yet been announced.

Keane’s former United teammate Wayne Rooney, however, said he would not want Manchester United to receive City’s titles retrospectively if they are removed. Rooney said United did not do enough to win the 2011/12 league title, when they finished behind City.
