The Lagos State Government has provided detailed guidelines for residents ahead of the scheduled monthly environmental sanitation exercise set for Saturday, April 25, 2026.
Officials emphasized that the exercise will take place between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., during which residents are expected to clean their surroundings, properly dispose of waste, and ensure their immediate environment is hygienic.
Authorities clarified that there will be strict monitoring across communities to ensure compliance with the sanitation directive. Enforcement teams are expected to be deployed to oversee activities and address violations where necessary.
Residents were cautioned against ignoring the exercise, as defaulters risk facing penalties under the state’s environmental laws. The government reiterated that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility and essential for public health and safety.
The sanitation programme, which is being reintroduced after several years of suspension, is part of broader efforts to tackle improper waste disposal, reduce flooding risks, and improve overall environmental conditions across the state.
Citizens were also encouraged to clear drainage channels around their homes and avoid practices that could block waterways, especially as the rainy season approaches. Proper waste management habits, officials noted, are critical to preventing disease outbreaks and ensuring a safer living environment.
The initiative forms part of ongoing strategies to restore environmental discipline and promote a cleaner, healthier Lagos for all residents.
