The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Samuel Ogbuku, has provided an update to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the progress of major development projects across the Niger Delta region.
Speaking after a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Ogbuku highlighted significant strides made by the commission in completing key infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving living conditions in the oil-producing region.
He noted that several projects have already been completed, including a 650-bed student hostel at the Niger Delta University in Amassoma, Bayelsa State, as well as an electrification scheme in Oron, Akwa Ibom State. These projects are designed to address critical needs such as accommodation shortages and access to power.
According to him, the meeting with the President also provided an opportunity to formally invite him to inaugurate the completed projects, underscoring the Federal Government’s commitment to sustainable development in the region.
Ogbuku further revealed that several large-scale projects are at advanced stages and will soon be ready for commissioning. These include the Kaa–Ataba Road and Bridge in Rivers State, a regional specialist hospital, and multiple road projects in Akwa Ibom.
He also referenced ongoing collaboration with the Delta State Government and Chevron Nigeria Limited on the construction of the 70.75-kilometre Omadino–Okerenkoko–Escravos road and bridges, which is expected to enhance connectivity and economic activity in affected communities.
The NDDC chief emphasized that the progress recorded so far is largely due to strong backing from the Presidency, noting that the administration has directed the commission to prioritize the completion of legacy projects for the benefit of Niger Delta residents.
He reiterated the commission’s commitment to aligning its operations with the federal government’s development agenda, adding that ongoing and completed projects are focused on delivering tangible improvements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic growth across the region.
The latest update reflects continued efforts to accelerate development in the Niger Delta and ensure that long-standing projects are delivered to positively impact communities.
