Nollywood has recorded a new Guinness World Record after 51,000 qualifying viewers watched the crime thriller Black Market at a single-location screening at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos on Saturday. A Guinness World Records official confirmed the figure after the screening, surpassing the previous record of 43,624 viewers set in 2015.

The event attracted thousands of movie lovers, with organisers initially targeting 50,000 attendees. Although the overall crowd was reported to be higher, Guinness World Records counted those who remained at the screening from beginning to end as qualifying viewers. FilmOne, the film’s distributor, also confirmed the record.

Directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay, Black Market stars Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Omowunmi Dada, Scarlet Gomez, Susan Pwajok and Uzor Arukwe, among others. The film centres on five women involved in cross-border smuggling whose lives change after one of their daughters is kidnapped.
