Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Danbatta Division in Kano State, have arrested a suspected vandal and recovered four bags filled with aluminium electricity conductor cables.

The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Jamilu Inusa from Kauyen Mudu in Danbatta Local Government Area, was arrested at about 4:15am on Friday, October 2, 2026, while NSCDC personnel were on patrol. The arrest followed credible intelligence received by the Corps.

According to the Kano State Command's Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, Inusa was intercepted while driving a white Volkswagen Golf Wagon with registration number KMC 656 ZJ.

A subsequent search led to the recovery of four bags containing aluminium electricity conductor cables that had allegedly been concealed in a compound in Danbatta town. The NSCDC said the vehicle was used to transport the suspected vandalised materials.

The recovered conductors were identified as bare-stranded aluminium wires of the ACSR/AAC type. According to the Corps, the cables are commonly used for overhead 33KV, 11KV and low-voltage electricity distribution lines.

The NSCDC described vandalism and theft of electricity infrastructure as a serious threat to public safety and socio-economic development, stressing the importance of protecting critical national assets.

The Corps also disclosed that two other prime suspects allegedly linked to the incident were still at large, with efforts ongoing to apprehend them.

The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mohammed Agalama, commended the Danbatta Division operatives for their vigilance and professionalism. He urged members of the public to continue providing credible information that could help security agencies prevent vandalism and protect critical infrastructure.

The NSCDC said the suspect would face appropriate legal action after the completion of investigations.
