The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has adopted Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its consensus choice for the party’s 2027 governorship ticket. The decision was announced at a strategic caucus meeting held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, who spoke at the meeting, said the decision followed months of consultations and careful assessment of aspirants. He explained that the move was driven by the desire to present a formidable flag bearer and also give Ogun West the opportunity to produce the next governor of the state.
Abiodun said he had engaged key stakeholders, including President Bola Tinubu and leading party figures, and added that front-line aspirants from Ogun West, including Gboyega Isiaka and Biodun Akinlade, had agreed to support a single candidate in the interest of party unity.
The caucus meeting was attended by former governors Olusegun Osoba, Ibikunle Amosun, and Gbenga Daniel, alongside other party leaders and stakeholders. Following the announcement, Senator Adeola thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to sustain unity, peace and progress in Ogun State.
APC state chairman Yemi Sanusi said the meeting was convened to preserve party unity before, during and after the primaries, an indication that the consensus move is part of the party’s internal process ahead of the formal nomination stage.
