The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Air Force, Kabiru Alhassan, has expressed concern over the crash of a Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft in Igbokoda, Ondo State, urging Nigerians to remain calm as rescue operations continue.

Alhassan, in a message of solidarity on Tuesday, said he was deeply saddened by the incident involving the military aircraft, which was reportedly carrying 32 people — 25 passengers and seven crew members. He said the status of those on board had yet to be officially confirmed as emergency responders and security agencies continued operations at the crash site.

The lawmaker expressed sympathy to the passengers, crew members, their families and loved ones, while commending the Nigerian Air Force, security agencies, emergency responders and other personnel involved in the response.

He said he remained hopeful that those on board would be found safe and urged Nigerians to remain calm and prayerful while the operation continued. He also appealed to members of the public to avoid circulating unverified information, noting that authorities were still working to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash and account for everyone on board.

The aircraft, with tail number NGR 931, was travelling from Benin City to Lagos when air traffic controllers reportedly lost contact with it at about 9:13am on Monday. It subsequently crashed into a swampy area in Igbokoda, the headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The Nigerian Air Force confirmed that the ATR-42 was on a routine mission and activated a search-and-rescue operation. Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo said 32 people were on board, comprising 25 passengers and seven crew members.

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa said no survivor had been found as of Monday evening, although rescue efforts were continuing. He said wreckage, identification cards and uniforms had been recovered from the crash area.

Authorities have not yet established the cause of the crash. Investigations and recovery operations are expected to provide further information about the aircraft's final moments and the circumstances surrounding the accident.
