One person has died and four suspects have been arrested following a clash between farmers and herders in Guda Village, Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The Bauchi State Police Command said the incident occurred on September 23, 2026, after three farmers reportedly discovered cattle belonging to a herder grazing on and destroying their crops on Guda Hill.

According to police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, the farmers followed the cattle to the herders’ settlement, where an argument escalated into a fight. The three farmers sustained injuries during the confrontation.

Police said some youths from Guda Village subsequently mobilised in retaliation and set houses in the herders’ settlement on fire.

The injured farmers were taken to General Hospital, Ningi, for treatment, but one of them, identified as 40-year-old Usman Jibrin, later died.

Habib disclosed that four suspects were arrested on October 8 through intelligence-led operations. They are being investigated for alleged criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, arson and culpable homicide.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, ordered the suspects’ transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation.

The police urged residents to avoid taking the law into their own hands and encouraged farmers and herders to embrace dialogue and peaceful coexistence to prevent further violence.
