Abia State Governor Alex Otti has ruled out contesting for president, the Senate or any other elective office after completing his tenure as governor. He made the declaration during an interview on Friday while responding to questions about his political future and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi.
Otti said he intends to retire from active politics once his governorship tenure ends, describing his current role as a mission he wants to complete before stepping aside for younger leaders. He had made similar comments in 2025 and again earlier this month, when he also said he had no interest in becoming a political godfather.
The governor added that Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar or any other political figure would be free to campaign in Abia State, stressing that allowing political opponents to canvass for votes is part of democratic practice.
