Political parties have begun moves to challenge the omission of several governorship and legislative candidates from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s final list for the 2027 general elections, raising fresh disputes over nominations and eligibility across several states.

Among those missing are former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, listed by the Peoples Democratic Party as its governorship candidate in Gombe State, and Oladipupo Adebutu, the party’s candidate in Ogun State. The PDP said it had opened discussions with INEC and urged supporters to remain calm while efforts were made to resolve the matter through established electoral procedures.

Similar concerns have emerged in Kano, Kaduna, Benue, Jigawa, Bauchi, Rivers and other states. The Nigeria Democratic Congress said its Kano governorship candidate, Aminu Gwarzo, and his running mate were omitted, while the Action Alliance threatened legal action over the absence of some of its governorship and legislative candidates. In Jigawa, the African Democratic Congress also complained that its preferred deputy governorship candidate and several other nominees were missing from the published list.

However, not all exclusions are being blamed on administrative errors. In Kwara State, African Action Congress governorship candidate Duwatsu Musa was excluded after failing to meet the constitutional minimum age of 35. Other cases are linked to internal party disputes, nomination controversies and ongoing court proceedings.
INEC has published the official candidate lists, but as of the latest reports had not publicly confirmed claims by some parties that computer or administrative errors caused their candidates’ omissions.
