The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has expressed concern over the reported freezing of Osun State Government bank accounts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, questioning the timing of the action ahead of the state’s governorship election. Obi, in a statement on his X handle on Thursday, said he supports the fight against corruption but warned that anti-corruption efforts must not be used as a tool for political intimidation or interference in democratic processes.

“I have always supported a relentless fight against corruption.

However, that fight must never become a tool for political intimidation or the suppression of democracy,” Obi said. He argued that government institutions must remain independent and avoid actions that could create doubts about their neutrality, particularly during election periods.
