The meeting was disclosed in a statement issued by Segun Adediran, the Chief Executive Officer of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria.
According to Tinubu, the government is already reviewing the tariff exemption list and will consider including key items used by media organisations. These items include newsprint, printing plates, chemicals, and radio and television broadcast equipment.
He noted that many of these materials currently attract tariffs ranging between five and ten percent, a cost burden that significantly affects the operations of media houses across the country.
The president emphasised that reducing such financial pressures would help strengthen the media sector and ensure its continued role in promoting transparency, democratic governance and national development.
