Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić has been appointed to officiate the 2026 FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and Spain at New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday, July 19. The 46-year-old becomes the first Slovenian and the 23rd match official in history to take charge of a men’s World Cup final.

Vinčić began refereeing in his home city of Maribor at the age of 20 and became a FIFA-listed international referee in 2010. His major assignments include the 2022 UEFA Europa League final and the 2024 UEFA Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium.
