The Nigeria Democratic Congress and support groups backing its 2027 presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso have disagreed over the party’s decision to register support groups ahead of the general elections. The NDC says registration is free and must be handled by its national Directorate of Support Groups, while the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement insists it remains an independent organisation with its own structure.

The Director-General of the OK Movement, John Ughulu, said the group would resist any attempt to take over or interfere with its internal structure. The Kwankwassiya Movement spokesman, Habibu Muhammed, however, called for understanding, saying the groups and the party ultimately share the objective of supporting the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket.

The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Yunusa Tanko, also urged the groups to avoid disagreements that could distract from the 2027 campaign. He said the NDC is the platform on which Obi is contesting and that support groups should focus on helping the candidates.
