The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Gashua, Yobe State, Professor Yaqub Geidam, has officially assumed office, unveiling a roadmap aimed at strengthening academic excellence, research development, and infrastructure across the institution.
Professor Geidam’s appointment as the fourth substantive Vice-Chancellor was approved by the university’s Governing Council at a statutory meeting chaired by the Pro-Chancellor, Ibrahim Usman, following a merit-based selection process in line with existing university regulations.
Speaking during the handover ceremony held on Wednesday at the university’s 1,000-capacity lecture hall, the Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the Council and university community for the confidence reposed in him.
He pledged to consolidate existing achievements while prioritising academic standards, research and innovation, staff welfare, infrastructural development, and overall institutional growth.
Professor Geidam, a Professor of Veterinary Medicine with over 20 years of academic experience, previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Maiduguri and has held several administrative positions.
In her remarks, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maimuna Waziri, thanked staff and students for their support during her tenure and urged them to give the same cooperation to her successor.
The ceremony attracted principal officers, management staff, deans, heads of departments, students, and other dignitaries.
