The Ogun State Government, in partnership with the Federal Government and World Bank, has begun disbursing N6 billion from the Community Investment Fund to 3,855 Women Affinity Groups under the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up. The intervention is designed to help women expand businesses, strengthen household livelihoods and increase economic participation. Governor Dapo Abiodun said the fund is not an outright grant but a revolving financing facility for women who have met programme requirements, including regular savings, internal lending, bank-account ownership and preparation of micro-investment plans. Beneficiaries had collectively saved about N2.6 billion in seven months and accessed more than N4 billion in internal loans. The scale-up programme has now formed 5,394 Women Affinity Groups reaching 124,062 women across seven local government areas in Ogun State. The initiative also provides financial literacy, entrepreneurship training, responsible borrowing support and other services intended to improve women’s long-term economic resilience.
