Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has resumed partial team training as he steps up his recovery from a groin injury ahead of Friday’s Trendyol Süper Lig clash against Kasımpaşa.

The Nigeria international joined his teammates for part of Galatasaray’s training session at the Kemerburgaz Metin Oktay Facilities on Tuesday before continuing with an individual programme prepared by the club’s medical staff.

The session, overseen by head coach Okan Buruk, began with a dynamic warm-up before the squad moved into 8v2 passing exercises in three groups. The players subsequently worked on possession drills and finished with a small-sided game.

Osimhen participated in the opening stages of the workout, a positive indication that he is progressing towards a return to competitive action. However, Galatasaray is expected to manage his workload carefully as he rebuilds his fitness.

The 27-year-old sustained the injury during Galatasaray’s 3-2 victory over İstanbul Başakşehir on September 4. He was forced off in the 33rd minute after experiencing discomfort in his right groin. Medical tests subsequently revealed an advanced-moderate strain with bleeding in the right adductor muscle group.

The injury ruled Osimhen out of several matches, including Galatasaray’s Champions League opener against Sporting CP and Süper Lig fixtures against Kocaelispor and Trabzonspor. He also withdrew from Nigeria’s squad for the opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau so he could continue his rehabilitation.

Before the setback, Osimhen had enjoyed an impressive start to the season, scoring six goals and providing two assists in his first four Süper Lig appearances.

Galatasaray are preparing for a busy period, with Kasımpaşa visiting RAMS Park on Friday, October 9, before the Turkish champions host Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday, October 13.

Osimhen is being assessed with a possible appearance against Kasımpaşa in mind. Reports suggest that, if cleared to play, Buruk could introduce him for a limited period rather than immediately restoring him to the starting XI.

Midfielder Mario Lemina and goalkeeper Günay Güvenç completed the entire training session with the squad, while defenders Wilfried Singo and Roland Sallai continued their rehabilitation programmes separately.

Osimhen’s gradual return will provide a major boost for Galatasaray as the club prepares for two important fixtures within four days.
