Former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.

The former governor was reportedly arrested on Monday night after failing to honour earlier police invitations connected to an ongoing investigation. Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu, confirmed the development to Channels Television on Tuesday, October 13.

Okorocha was released on bail after approximately one hour of interrogation and was directed to return to the Force Headquarters for further questioning as investigations continue.

According to reports, police initially invited him on September 2, but the appointment was rescheduled to September 8 at the request of his lawyers. He reportedly failed to attend the rescheduled meeting.

The investigation is linked to a disputed document concerning the All Progressives Congress senatorial primary for Imo West. The Independent National Electoral Commission has maintained that Governor Hope Uzodimma won the primary and asked security agencies to investigate a separate document purporting to show Okorocha as the winner.

The allegations against Okorocha have not been established in court. Further details of the police investigation have not been publicly disclosed.

The former governor had previously challenged reports of an arrest warrant against him, calling for the alleged court order to be made public.
