Deputy Commissioner of Police Adamu Muazu, who heads the Intelligence Response Team, gave the warning on Thursday while parading four suspects allegedly linked to the planned abduction of Prophetess Elizabeth.
According to the police, the cleric was reportedly targeted after sharing a testimony about her achievements. The alleged plot was intended to be carried out after an evening church service but was foiled before it could be executed.
Muazu expressed concern that some of the suspects were closely connected to the church and the intended victim. He said one allegedly worked as her driver, while another served as a bodyguard to the church’s senior pastor.
The police chief urged church leaders, particularly those operating in isolated areas, to strengthen security arrangements and pay closer attention to the safety of worshippers attending evening services.
He also advised churches to assess the security of access roads, entrances and exits, especially where services end late at night. Worshippers, he said, should avoid assuming that everyone in a congregation has good intentions.
The arrests highlight concerns about criminals potentially exploiting personal information disclosed in public settings. Police have urged religious institutions and their members to take reasonable precautions while continuing their activities.
The allegations against the suspects have not been established in court.
