Public servants under the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council have threatened to begin a three-day nationwide warning strike on October 2 if the Federal Government fails to address their demands over petrol prices, wage awards and negotiations for a new national minimum wage. The council said its September 30 deadline remained unchanged.

The workers are demanding that petrol prices be reduced to N500 per litre, an urgent wage award and the immediate constitution of a committee to negotiate a new minimum wage ahead of 2027. The Nigeria Labour Congress has backed the public sector unions and warned that the dispute could escalate into a wider national strike if the demands are not addressed.

The planned action is scheduled to begin on Friday, October 2, 2026. Government officials are reportedly handling the workers’ demands, but no resolution had been publicly confirmed at the time of the reports.
