President Bola Tinubu has declared that Nigeria is entering an “age of prosperity” after three years of economic reforms. In his Independence Day address on Thursday, marking Nigeria’s 66th anniversary, he said the government’s focus would now shift towards jobs, production and improved living standards.

Tinubu defended reforms including the removal of petrol subsidy and changes to the foreign exchange system, saying they were necessary to address longstanding economic problems. He said the next priority was to reduce the cost of living by lowering production and transportation costs while expanding agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure and digital connectivity.

The President said his administration would also strengthen social support, education financing, healthcare and access to credit for Nigerians. He acknowledged that many citizens still face economic hardship but said the government would focus on creating productive opportunities and reducing poverty.
