The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities and the Spinal Cord Injuries Association of Nigeria have called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to fully implement the Ogun State Disability Law before the end of his tenure. The law was signed on December 27, 2017, by former governor Ibikunle Amosun but has yet to be fully operationalised.

The groups said the delay has affected access to education, healthcare, transportation, employment, economic opportunities and political participation for persons with disabilities. They also urged the government not to allow proposed amendments to the law to further delay implementation of the existing framework.

JONAPWD and SCIAN said they remain willing to work with the state government on consultations, technical input and possible amendments, but stressed that the next stage should be concrete implementation, including functioning institutions and enforceable protections for persons with disabilities.
