The Universal Basic Education Commission will begin implementing its 10-year Universal Basic Education Roadmap, covering 2026 to 2035, in October. UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr Aisha Garba, announced this during a consultative workshop with chairmen of the 36 State Universal Basic Education Boards and commission directors in Abuja.

The new roadmap will adopt a “whole school approach”, requiring states to assess the full needs of individual schools rather than concentrating on isolated projects such as classrooms or furniture. UBEC also unveiled the Basic Education Action Plan Management System, a digital platform designed to improve planning, transparency, monitoring and public accountability in the use of education funds.

The commission said the new framework is intended to improve coordination and ensure that interventions address the wider infrastructure and learning needs of schools. Implementation is expected to begin in the first week of October 2026.
