Spanish football authorities have postponed 24 Copa del Rey matches scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, 2026, following a devastating collision involving two high-speed passenger trains in Toledo province. The accident, which occurred about 130 kilometres south of Madrid, has left at least 31 people dead and 80 others injured, according to provisional figures released by Spanish authorities.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced the suspension of all 24 first-round fixtures scheduled for Wednesday afternoon and evening as a mark of respect for the victims and their families. The federation expressed solidarity with those affected by the tragedy and confirmed its readiness to support emergency authorities responding to the disaster.

The collision occurred near Urda in Toledo province and involved two high-speed trains operating on routes connecting Madrid with southern Spain. Emergency services were deployed to the scene to rescue passengers, provide medical assistance and investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The accident also disrupted railway connections between Madrid and Andalusia, affecting travel arrangements for football clubs and supporters.

Among the postponed fixtures were Real Betis against Navalcarnero, Valencia against Tavernes, Celta Vigo against Salamanca, Mallorca against Alcoyano, and Granada against Cieza. Other affected matches included Xerez against Cadiz and Badajoz against Tenerife. The federation said revised dates and kick-off times would be communicated after consultations with the clubs and relevant authorities.

The postponements have disrupted the opening round of Spain's major domestic cup competition, as clubs await confirmation of a revised schedule. Matches originally scheduled for Thursday, October 29, had not been formally postponed at the time of the announcement. Meanwhile, authorities continue rescue and recovery operations, with the reported casualty figures remaining provisional as investigations into the collision continue.
