The industrial action took effect on Monday, October 12, following months of negotiations between the union and the state government. The strike has disrupted academic activities at the university in Jalingo.
ASUU-TSU Chairman, Dr Joshua Mbave, said the union’s demands include the implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU remuneration agreement and payment of salary arrears accumulated from January 2026.
According to the union, a verification committee established to examine the existing salary structure completed its assignment and submitted its report on September 24. However, the union said the process had not resulted in the implementation of the agreed remuneration framework.
The latest action follows an earlier suspension of planned industrial action after the state government requested additional time to resolve the dispute.
ASUU said it had exhausted several avenues for dialogue but remained willing to negotiate with the government and other stakeholders, provided discussions lead to a definite resolution.
The union urged the administration of Governor Agbu Kefas to honour previous commitments, implement the agreed salary structure and clear outstanding arrears.
The duration of the strike remains uncertain, with a resolution dependent on further engagement between the union and the state government.
