The College of Nursing Services at Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti, is set to induct its first 109 graduates into the nursing profession on Thursday, October 22.

The Chief Medical Director of EKSUTH, Professor Kayode Olabanji, said the graduates completed their four-year training programme and passed the required qualifying examinations.

The graduates were admitted in 2022, following the upgrade of the hospital’s former School of Nursing and Midwifery to the College of Nursing Services. Their induction will be conducted by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, the body responsible for regulating the profession.

Olabanji described the ceremony as an important milestone in recognising the graduates’ training and professional readiness. He said the college was established to help address shortages of healthcare workers in Nigeria, a challenge compounded by the migration of health professionals abroad.

The college’s Provost, Dr Olabisi Awe, said the institution had modern facilities and qualified personnel to support professional training. She also acknowledged the contributions of the Ekiti State Government and other stakeholders to the college’s development.

The first induction marks a significant step for the institution as it expands its role in training nurses, midwives and public health professionals to support healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
