Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has mourned the deaths of former Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan and veteran diplomat Patrick Dele Cole, describing their passing as a significant loss to Nigeria. Fayemi paid tribute to the two elder statesmen in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, by the Head of his Media Office, Ahmad Sajoh.

Fayemi said Uduaghan’s years in public service were marked by attention to healthcare, infrastructure and human capital development in Delta State. He noted that the former governor’s background as a medical doctor and his experience in political leadership helped shape his approach to governance and public responsibility.

Turning to Dele Cole, Fayemi described the late diplomat, journalist and public servant as an influential voice in Nigeria’s national discourse. He said Cole’s work in diplomacy, journalism and public affairs contributed to the country’s intellectual and political development and that his experience would be greatly missed.

Uduaghan, who served as Delta State governor from 2007 to 2015, died on Monday at the age of 71 after a brief illness, according to his family. Cole, a former diplomat and presidential adviser, died at the age of 86 after a long career spanning journalism, diplomacy and public service.

Fayemi extended condolences to the families, friends and associates of both men, as well as the governments and people of Delta and Rivers states. He urged their families to draw comfort from the lives they lived and the institutions and people they influenced through their service to the country.
