Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has warned newly appointed commissioners and special advisers that his administration will not tolerate inefficiency, complacency or administrative lapses as it enters the final stretch of its tenure. He gave the charge on Tuesday, October 20, during the swearing-in of the new appointees at the International Conference Centre in Gombe.

Yahaya said the appointments were intended to strengthen governance, consolidate ongoing reforms and accelerate the completion of projects before the administration leaves office in 2027. He urged the officials to treat their positions as a call to public service rather than an opportunity for personal advancement.

The governor directed the commissioners to familiarise themselves with the policies, programmes and projects of their ministries and work closely with permanent secretaries and other senior officials. He also tasked the special advisers with providing practical and timely recommendations to support executive decision-making and improve policy implementation.

Yahaya said the remaining months of the administration should be marked by greater discipline, renewed energy and intensified service delivery. He listed road infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, water supply, environmental protection and institutional reforms among areas the government intends to consolidate before handing over.

He also warned against corruption, indiscipline and abuse of office, stressing that public office should be exercised in the interest of residents. Among the newly appointed officials are Dr Ahmed Wali Doho, Nasiru Adamu Degri and Dr Muhammad A. Bello, while Shehu Yerima Abdullahi was redeployed to the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.
