The Federal Government has urged hotel owners and managers across Nigeria to prevent their facilities from being used for illegal activities as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections. Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi said hotels should strengthen security cooperation, regulatory compliance and political neutrality.
Speaking at the JAGZ Hospitality Conference 2026 in Ibadan through presidential aide Fernandez Marcus-Obiene, Fagbemi said operators should maintain accurate information on lodgers and cooperate appropriately with security agencies. Oyo State Commissioner of Police Abimbola Olugbenga also warned hotels against allowing their premises to become partisan political bases.
The EFCC’s Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering also urged hotel operators to strengthen customer due diligence, reduce cash transactions and scrutinise suspicious or unusually large payments. Officials said hotels are likely to host politicians, campaign teams, journalists and security personnel during the election period, making stronger compliance and safety procedures necessary.
