Indonesia is targeting $17.5 billion in transactions at the 41st Trade Expo Indonesia, which opened on Wednesday, October 14, at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition in BSD City, Tangerang, Banten. President Prabowo Subianto expressed confidence that the five-day international trade exhibition could surpass the target as the country seeks to expand exports and attract more global buyers and investors.

Prabowo, represented at the opening by Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition Affairs Bahlil Lahadalia, said 168 memoranda of understanding valued at about $13.2 billion had been prepared with buyers from 22 countries. The agreements represent prospective business commitments and will still require further negotiation and implementation before they can be regarded as completed transactions.

The President said 16,885 prospective buyers had registered for the expo, including 8,092 international buyers from 134 countries. Organisers are also hosting 1,873 exhibitors showcasing food and agricultural products, manufactured goods, fashion, handicrafts, furniture, home decoration and investment opportunities.

Indonesia’s Trade Ministry expects the event to strengthen export earnings and connect local businesses with international markets. The government is placing particular emphasis on processed and higher-value exports, while also seeking to simplify export procedures, improve access to finance and strengthen business matching between Indonesian companies and overseas buyers.

Nigeria and other West African countries are among the markets being targeted. Indonesia’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Bambang Suharto, said 101 West African participants had arrived for the 2026 expo, while preliminary agreements worth about $10 million had already been signed. Indonesia recorded $22.83 billion in transactions at the 2025 edition, exceeding its $16.5 billion target.
