Kano Orders Closure of Event Centres and Entertainment Venues for Ramadan
The Kano State Censorship Board has ordered the immediate closure of all entertainment centres across Kano State, including gala houses (event centres) and venues used by Disc Jockeys (DJs), as Muslims begin to observe the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement on Tuesday, the board’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, said the directive takes effect from 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, and will remain in place throughout the fasting period.

The move is aimed at creating a calm, respectful and undisturbed atmosphere for residents to observe fasting and engage in their religious activities. The closure applies to all entertainment centres and operators until the end of Ramadan.

The board said the date for reopening — particularly during the Eid celebrations — will be announced at the appropriate time. It urged owners and operators of affected venues to fully comply with the directive, warning that enforcement teams will ensure adherence.

The closure forms part of Kano’s efforts to respect religious observances and reinforce regulations guiding entertainment activities during significant religious periods.

Residents and stakeholders have been called upon to cooperate and support a peaceful, healthy, and spiritually rewarding Ramadan.
