Nigerian Army Begins Screening for Education Sponsorship for Children of Fallen Soldiers
The Nigerian Army has announced a nationwide verification and screening exercise for children of personnel who died in active service under its education sponsorship programme for the 2025/2026 academic session

According to a notice posted on the Army’s official X handle, the exercise will be conducted across the six geopolitical zones between February and March 2026 to ensure eligible beneficiaries are captured and supported. 

The sponsorship scheme is part of the Army’s welfare initiatives aimed at guaranteeing primary, secondary and tertiary education for the children of personnel who lost their lives in service. 

Screening Schedule by Zone

  • South-South: February 23–26, 2026 — Headquarters, 6 Division, Port Harcourt, Rivers State 
  • South-East: February 28–March 3, 2026 — Headquarters, 82 Division, Enugu, Enugu State 
  • South-West: March 5–8, 2026 — Headquarters, 82 Division, Ibadan, Oyo State 
  • North-East: March 11–14, 2026 — Headquarters, Nigerian Army Armour Corps, Bauchi, Bauchi State 
  • North-West: March 16–20, 2026 — Headquarters, 1 Division Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Kaduna State 
  • North-Central & FCT: March 23–27, 2026 — Army Headquarters Command Officers’ Mess, Asokoro, Abuja 

Required Documents

Applicants are urged to bring relevant documents, including:
  • A handwritten application letter with beneficiary names
  • School admission letter or JAMB admission letter (where applicable)
  • Last school report card/results and confirmation of enrollments
  • Birth certificate of the child
  • Death certificate and Part II order of death of the deceased personnel
  • Condolence letter, bank account details, BVN, and recent passport photos 

The Army urged prospective applicants to ensure they have all necessary documents ready ahead of their zonal screening dates, and directed further enquiries to the publicised contact number. 

This exercise underscores ongoing efforts by the Force to support the education of soldiers’ children affected by the ultimate sacrifice of their parents.
