The nearly four-tonne satellite will provide television broadcasting, broadband internet, voice calls and streaming services across West, Central and Southern Africa, with an expected operational life of more than 15 years. It is also designed to improve connectivity in underserved and remote communities where terrestrial networks are limited.
NIGCOMSAT Managing Director Nkechi Egerton-Idehen described the project as a step towards Nigeria’s digital transformation, while Thales Alenia Space said the satellite would strengthen communications infrastructure and support growing demand for digital services across the continent.
