The US government’s new America.gov AI chatbot has stopped answering some politically sensitive questions after initially providing responses that contradicted claims made by President Donald Trump. The chatbot, launched on Tuesday to help Americans access government information and services, initially used official federal records to answer questions about the 2020 election and other contentious issues.

On its first day, the chatbot said official federal assessments found no widespread voter fraud that changed the 2020 election result. By Wednesday, however, it declined to answer the same question, saying it did not provide political commentary or analysis of past elections. The White House said America.gov would continue to be updated to provide accurate federal information, but did not explain the change.

The chatbot has nevertheless continued to challenge some other claims, including Trump’s assertion that the US experienced its highest-ever inflation under former President Joe Biden. The platform draws information from official government sources and is intended to expand access to federal information and services.
