Former Ekiti State Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Dr Oluwole Oluyede, has urged Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement presidential candidate Seyi Makinde to base his 2027 campaign on measurable achievements, leadership experience and policy proposals rather than youthful energy and physical stamina.

Oluyede made the call in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Friday, October 23, following Makinde’s remarks at an APM South-West campaign town hall in Akure. Makinde had told supporters that while he would not make age a campaign issue, he considered the energy and stamina required to handle the demands of the presidency important.

Oluyede argued that Nigerians should assess presidential candidates by the institutions they have built, people they have empowered, their handling of political organisations and the results achieved while in public office. He challenged Makinde to present his record as Oyo governor and explain how his leadership had strengthened political structures in the South-West.

The former governorship candidate also said President Bola Tinubu and other contenders should be judged on verifiable policies and governance outcomes. He maintained that the 2027 presidential debate should centre on achievements, accountability, ideas and the ability to manage Nigeria’s economy, security challenges and public institutions.
