Six opposition political parties have opened consultations with five presidential candidates, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, as efforts intensify to develop a framework for cooperation ahead of the 2027 general elections. The discussions were announced on Wednesday, October 14, by G100 promoter Salihu Moh. Lukman on behalf of the participating parties.
The parties involved are the African Democratic Congress, Allied Peoples Movement, Nigeria Democratic Congress, Social Democratic Party, Peoples Democratic Party and Peoples Redemption Party. Their national chairmen and national secretaries have been consulting Atiku of the ADC, Makinde of the APM, Obi of the NDC, SDP candidate Adewole Adebayo and PRP candidate Donald Duke.
According to the coalition organisers, the talks are aimed at identifying areas of common ground, strengthening cooperation among opposition parties and developing a coordinated political approach ahead of the election. The consultations follow resolutions reached at the G100 Opposition Summit, where participating parties agreed to establish structures for dialogue on a possible united opposition strategy.
However, no common presidential candidate, merger or final coalition agreement has been announced. Lukman said discussions remain ongoing and that Nigerians would be informed when substantive decisions and agreed next steps emerge, meaning the initiative remains at the consultation and framework-building stage.
