Former Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike has criticised some state governors over what he described as poor leadership and alleged misuse of public funds, declaring that Nigeria has become an “embezzlement ground.” The former international made the remarks in a post shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
Emenike accused some governors of failing to develop meaningful plans for the future of their states while allegedly prioritising the diversion of public resources. He also questioned what he described as the confidence and attitude of political office holders despite the economic difficulties facing many Nigerians.
The former striker extended his criticism to security personnel attached to political leaders, arguing that some police and military officers continue to protect politicians despite facing economic hardship themselves. He did not, however, identify any particular governor or provide evidence against specific state administrations.
Emenike represented Nigeria between 2011 and 2015, scoring nine goals in 37 appearances for the Super Eagles. He played a key role in Nigeria’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations triumph in South Africa, finishing as joint top scorer with four goals and earning a place in the tournament’s best team.
