Clark County District Court Judge Carli Kierny delivered the sentence on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, in Las Vegas, Nevada, following Davis’ conviction for first-degree murder in August.
Prosecutors argued that Davis orchestrated the fatal shooting on September 7, 1996, by arranging the attack and supplying a firearm to associates. They did not allege that he personally pulled the trigger.
The sentence comprises consecutive terms of 20 years to life for murder and an additional 20 years to life for the use of a deadly weapon.
During the sentencing hearing, Davis said he intended to appeal the conviction. His lawyer also indicated that the defence would challenge the verdict.
Judge Kierny told Davis that he could not escape responsibility for taking Shakur’s life, noting that the rapper’s death had remained a major unresolved case for nearly three decades.
Shakur’s sister, Sekyiwa, and stepbrother, Mopreme, also addressed the court about the lasting impact of the killing on their family.
Shakur was 25 when he was shot while travelling in a vehicle near the Las Vegas Strip. He died six days later. Davis is the only person convicted in connection with the murder.
