Barcelona and Spain forward Lamine Yamal has become the first player to win the men’s Young Talent of the Year award at the Ballon d’Or ceremony three years in a row.

The 19-year-old received the honour at Monday’s ceremony in London, adding to his victories in 2024 and 2025. The award, also known as the Kopa Trophy, recognises the outstanding male footballer aged 21 or younger, with the winner selected by former Ballon d’Or recipients.

Despite collecting the prize, Yamal used his acceptance speech to praise Barcelona team-mate Pau Cubarsí, saying he believed the young defender deserved the recognition for his performances.

Yamal also thanked Barcelona and Spain’s national team for their support. His latest win follows a successful 2025–26 campaign with Barcelona, during which he helped the club secure La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup.

The forward’s attacking contributions and influence in Barcelona’s play have further strengthened his reputation as one of football’s leading young players.

Cubarsí was among the other contenders for the award, highlighting the depth of emerging talent at Barcelona. Yamal’s comments drew attention to his team-mate’s progress, even as he extended his own record in the award’s history.

The achievement adds another milestone to Yamal’s career as he continues to feature prominently for club and country.
