Makinde made the appeal during a meeting with stakeholders at the hospital, where he explained that the state’s monthly wage bill had risen from ₦4.5bn in 2019 to ₦18bn in 2026.
The governor acknowledged outstanding salary, minimum wage and promotion arrears, as well as concerns surrounding the Medical Residency Training Fund. He said the government was committed to resolving the issues despite increasing financial pressures.
Makinde disclosed that ₦162m in salary arrears would be paid by mid-November. He also said ₦38m in minimum wage and promotion arrears relating to October, November and December 2024 would be cleared.
He further promised to seek ₦200m to settle outstanding payments and said the Medical Residency Training Bill was expected to be signed in the first week of November, subject to receiving the final copies.
In a further intervention, the governor approved an increase in the monthly salaries of cleaners at the teaching hospital from ₦15,000 to ₦80,000.
Makinde urged workers and union leaders to cooperate with the government, expressing his desire to resolve outstanding issues before the end of his administration.
Representatives of resident doctors and health workers also called for sustained implementation of professional allowance provisions.
The strike and the government’s proposed payments remain key issues in efforts to restore industrial harmony at the hospital.
