Manchester City will be without Ghana international Antoine Semenyo for up to eight weeks after the forward suffered a knee injury during Saturday’s 3-2 Premier League victory over Ipswich Town. Manager Enzo Maresca confirmed the extent of the injury on Monday, October 19, ahead of City’s Champions League meeting with AEK Athens.

Maresca said scans showed Semenyo’s injury was less serious than initially feared, but the 26-year-old is still expected to remain sidelined until around December. The City manager said the priority would be to ensure the forward makes a full recovery before returning to action.

City are also waiting on Erling Haaland, who picked up a knock to his foot and ankle in the closing stages of the Ipswich match. Maresca said the Norwegian striker was feeling better on Monday but would undergo a further assessment in training before a decision is made on his availability against AEK.

Mateo Kovacic, Nico O’Reilly and Matheus Nunes also emerged from the Ipswich game with fitness concerns, although Maresca said most of the affected players were in relatively good condition. Semenyo is the only player currently expected to face a lengthy spell out.

Manchester City have three points from their opening two Champions League matches and will be looking to recover from their 4-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain when they host AEK Athens on Tuesday.
