African players delivered several decisive performances across Europe at the weekend, with Cameroon’s Bryan Mbeumo, Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi and Akor Adams among those finding the net for their clubs in England and Italy.

Mbeumo scored his fourth Premier League goal of the season as Manchester United drew 1-1 with Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday. The Cameroon forward opened the scoring in the 35th minute from a Youri Tielemans cross before Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised for Leeds after the break. The point spared under-pressure United manager Michael Carrick another defeat, although his side remain 13th after winning just once in their last seven league matches.

Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi also made an important contribution for Fulham, scoring the only goal in their 1-0 home victory over Hull City. It was his first league goal since March and gave manager Alvaro Arbeloa his first Premier League win, while lifting Fulham out of the relegation zone

In Italy, Nigerian striker Akor Adams struck the winner as bottom-placed Venezia ended a six-match losing run with a 1-0 victory over Napoli. Ivory Coast forward Ange-Yoan Bonny was also on target, scoring late as Inter Milan defeated Bologna 3-1 away from home.

Elsewhere, Morocco international Ez Abde scored against former club Barcelona despite Real Betis suffering a 5-2 defeat, while Cameroon’s Bil Nsongo grabbed his first goal of the season for Deportivo La Coruna in a 1-1 draw with Levante. Algeria midfielder Ibrahim Maza completed an impressive weekend for African players with a goal and an assist in Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-1 Bundesliga win over Freiburg.
