The Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Musa, disclosed the directive on Thursday, October 15, after a meeting between the President and heads of security agencies at the State House in Abuja.
Musa said Tinubu had made it clear that security agencies must do everything possible to locate and rescue abducted Nigerians, stressing that terrorist and bandit camps should not be allowed to operate anywhere in the country.
The meeting also addressed security preparations for the 2027 general elections. According to the minister, Tinubu wants a free, fair and credible electoral process, with security personnel remaining professional and politically neutral.
Musa assured political parties and their supporters that security agencies would provide a safe environment for participation without intimidation.
He also disclosed that the government had increased recruitment, training and the procurement of security equipment. Nearly 10 newly acquired aircraft and helicopters are expected to be commissioned to strengthen operational capacity, he said.
The minister urged Nigerians to support security efforts by reporting suspicious activities and misconduct by security personnel.
The directive comes as the government faces continued pressure to tackle terrorism, banditry and kidnapping. Its impact will depend on how effectively security agencies translate the orders into operations that protect communities and secure the release of those still held captive.
