The grandmother of late Nigerian gospel singer Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, has alleged that she received little financial support from him in the years before his death and has opposed plans to bury him in a cemetery.

Sabitiyu Olayemi made the claims during an interview in Osun State, saying she had helped care for the singer and his mother before he moved to Lagos. She alleged that she had not seen her grandson for more than five years.

According to her account, Toluwanisings sent her ₦10,000 on approximately three occasions after she complained about their lack of contact, but the assistance did not continue. She also claimed she received no support for medication or other medical expenses.

Despite their reportedly distant relationship, the grandmother said she was deeply saddened by his death, stressing that he remained her grandson.

She also insisted that the singer should be buried at the house he built rather than in a cemetery. Her position adds to an ongoing disagreement among relatives over the musician’s final resting place.

Toluwanisings’ father, Muniru Adekunle Olayemi, has also expressed a preference for a home burial or for his son to be buried beside his late mother in Osun State. Reports indicate that the singer’s widow favours a cemetery burial.

The family’s burial arrangements remain contentious, while relatives have separately called for an investigation into the circumstances of the singer’s death. No official cause of death had been publicly disclosed in the reports reviewed.
