The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man suspected of transporting illegal firearms during a stop-and-search operation in the Iyana Isashi area of the state.

The suspect, identified by the police as Lukman Sanni, was arrested after officers intercepted him during the operation, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi.

Police said a search led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, two live cartridges and an item suspected to be a charm. The authorities have not publicly established the intended recipient of the firearm or the circumstances surrounding its possession.

The command said preliminary investigations were ongoing to determine the source of the weapon, its intended destination and whether other individuals were involved.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling illegal possession and trafficking of firearms, cultism and other criminal activities across the state.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police through the appropriate channels.

The arrest comes amid continuing police operations targeting the movement of illegal weapons and other suspected criminal activities across Lagos. The outcome of the investigation is expected to clarify the circumstances of the alleged arms transportation.

The suspect’s guilt has not been established, and any criminal allegations remain subject to investigation and due process.
