Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has broken his silence on speculation surrounding his relationship with former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, insisting that he has never spoken negatively about his predecessor despite their perceived political differences. The governor maintained that he still holds El-Rufai in high regard and has no personal disagreement with him.

Speaking during an interview on Trust TV's Daily Politics programme on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Sani addressed questions concerning El-Rufai's political influence and continued detention since February. He insisted that his respect for the former governor remained unchanged, adding that he would never publicly attack him regardless of prevailing political circumstances.

The governor also distanced himself from comments reportedly made by a supporter of his political party suggesting that El-Rufai should remain in detention until after the next election. Sani clarified that the individual expressed a personal opinion and was not speaking on his behalf. He declined to disclose whether he had made private efforts concerning El-Rufai's situation, explaining that some actions taken out of respect should remain confidential.

Sani further explained that his administration maintains relationships with former Kaduna State leaders and regularly seeks their advice on governance and development. He disclosed that former Governor Ahmed Makarfi had provided guidance on road construction projects, including the Soba-Zaria road, while former Vice President Namadi Sambo had assisted with the architectural design of a Government House project.

The governor maintained that effective leadership requires humility, consultation and a willingness to learn from experienced public officials. He insisted that he bears no personal hostility towards any of his predecessors and remains committed to drawing on their experience to improve governance and infrastructure development across Kaduna State.
